The Blue Planet Effect in 2018 was a remarkable one, and seemingly overnight it made more people keenly aware of the plastic problem facing our world. Millions of single use plastics and toxic chemicals crippling our wildife, plus the associated carbon footprint of packaging and tranporting it all. The amount of (often unrecyclable) packaging on virtually every item can be overwhelmingly depressing, and was in complete contrast to the type of conscious living I wanted for my family.
Meeting in the park with friends in 2018, I talked about dreams for a place where I could shop without all the excessive packaging; in fact, without any packaging at all. If only society’s way of living could become more zero waste… And so the idea of Zero was born. A shop dispensing locally sourced, great value, everyday products to in whatever containers you happen to have. Zero plastic, zero waste. Zero.
My name is Charlie- and this is Zero Store.
In Autumn 2018 I decided to be part of the movement for change: and get the message out to the local community. After working on many mobile events, in November 2019 I opened a popular, well-stocked shop in Leamington Spa, with an efficient (and fun!) self serve scales system. Having successfully navigated the store through a global pandemic, a second store opened in Stratford-Upon-Avon town centre in June 2022. Alongside the two shops, there are concessions and click and collect locations across Warwickshire. Many of the huge range of plastic-free products are also offered via the website for UK delivery.
Since 2018, with the support of many loyal customers, we have saved hundreds of thousands of plastics from bins nationwide, and supported over 80 other small, ethical businesses. Along the journey we’ve won awards, laughed, cried, and shared many friendly chats in the stores.
The aim: To provide a much-needed service to anyone trying to live a lower impact, kinder way of life – with a focus on locally sourced products and zero waste supply.
